Project Milestones

The WordPress redesign project is divided into discrete, sequential milestones. Development and design activities proceed strictly according to these phases. Progression to a subsequent milestone requires written sign-off and complete settlement of the associated payment link via MicroFreelanceHub.

  • Milestone 1: Discovery, UX & Architecture — Site audit, page tree approval, wireframes, and design style tile.
  • Milestone 2: Staging Environment Build & Development — Functional WordPress staging site installation, custom theme design implementation, responsive optimization, and initial core content migration.
  • Milestone 3: Quality Assurance, Live Domain Migration & Handoff — Browser compatibility testing, 301 redirect deployment, database migration to live host, and administrator credential delivery.

Deliverables by Phase

Consultant agrees to provide the following explicit deliverables for each phase. Deliverables outside this scope are subject to additional fees.

  • Phase 1: Interactive Figma/wireframe mockups for up to five (5) core template layouts, project roadmap, and third-party plugin audit document.
  • Phase 2: Password-protected staging URL containing responsive layouts, configured contact forms, and up to ten (10) populated content pages.
  • Phase 3: Live production deployment, XML sitemap submission, caching setup, speed optimization baseline report, and one (1) 60-minute recorded video training session.

Approval Criteria

Milestone approval must be submitted via MicroFreelanceHub formal approval records. The Client agrees to review deliverables within seven (7) business days of notice. If no written revision request or sign-off is submitted within this 7-day window, the milestone deliverables are deemed accepted, triggering the release requirement for the phase payment link.

Payment Schedule

Payments are strictly structured by milestone gates. No work shall commence on any phase prior to receiving confirmation that the designated deposit or phase payment link has cleared in full.

  • Initial Deposit (Milestone 1): 40% due upon execution of agreement before project kickoff.
  • Development Gate (Milestone 2): 40% due upon written approval of Phase 1 deliverables prior to staging site development.
  • Final Launch Gate (Milestone 3): 20% due upon completion of staging review prior to live server migration or transfer of administrative credentials.

Late Payment & Project Stagnation

If a milestone payment link remains unpaid past five (5) business days from approval, or if Client fails to provide necessary assets (copy, credentials, imagery) for more than fourteen (14) calendar days, the project status changes to 'Paused'. Resuming a paused project requires settlement of outstanding invoices plus a mandatory $250 project reactivation fee.

Change Requests

Any expansion of project scope—including custom plugin coding, additional page buildouts beyond the agreed count, or third-party API integrations—will be documented in a MicroFreelanceHub Change Order Addendum. Change requests require independent approval and upfront payment link settlement prior to implementation.

Final Delivery & IP Transfer

All intellectual property rights, theme design files, and live site admin permissions remain the exclusive property of the Consultant until all project milestone invoices and payment links are paid in full. Live domain migration will only be scheduled after 100% account balance clearing.

What is a WordPress Redesign Consultant Milestone Payment Agreement?

A WordPress Redesign Milestone Payment Agreement breaks complex site overhauls into paid stages—such as Discovery, Staging Build, and Migration. Each phase requires written client approval and payment before work on the next phase begins, ensuring steady cash flow, protecting design IP, and preventing unpaid scope creep during launch.

Built from real freelance projects

This template is based on real-world scenarios across freelance projects where unclear scope, missing payment terms, and revision creep led to lost revenue. It helps clarify your time, define expectations, and make payment steps easier to manage.

Why WordPress Redesign Consultants need a clear milestone payment agreement

WordPress site redesigns carry high client risk due to technical dependencies, plugin conflicts, and subjective visual preferences. Without a structured milestone payment agreement, consultants often build entire staging sites, debug complex third-party tools, and handle tedious content population, only to face client ghosting or endless, unpaid revision requests right before launch. A milestone agreement replaces vague project timelines with strict structural gates: Phase 1 (Discovery & Wireframes), Phase 2 (Staging Build & Theme Development), and Phase 3 (Migration & Launch). By connecting written milestone approval directly to payment links, consultants maintain steady cash flow and complete financial control. MicroFreelanceHub enables consultants to send contracts, capture legally binding approval records, collect deposits, and enforce payment-cleared stage transitions in a single unified workflow. This ensures that work never proceeds on unpaid stages, protecting developer time, intellectual property, and client relationships throughout the full redesign lifecycle.

Real-world scenario

A redesign consultant built a modern WordPress site on a staging server for an e-commerce client. After completing 90% of the build, the client requested major layout alterations and added 50 new product pages not in the contract. Because the consultant lacked a milestone agreement with gated payments, the client refused to pay the mid-project invoice until the new changes were completed. The consultant spent 40 unpaid hours working through requests, and upon launch, the client withheld the final balance over minor third-party plugin display delays. Under a MicroFreelanceHub Milestone Payment Agreement, the project would have been split into three distinct payment-gated stages. The consultant would have secured a 40% deposit link before staging, required signed approval and payment for Phase 2 before processing product uploads, and locked live domain migration behind the final payment link. Unplanned changes would trigger a standalone change request invoice automatically.

Best practices for WordPress Redesign Consultants

Host Staging on Developer Infrastructure

Keep staging environments under your own control and hosting account until all milestone payments have cleared.

Include Stagnation Fees for Delays

Stipulate that client response delays exceeding 14 calendar days auto-pause the project and require a reactivation payment link to resume.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I halt work if a client fails to pay the Phase 2 milestone on time?

Yes. The contract contains explicit payment-gate terms stating that staging development and content loading stop immediately if the Phase 2 approval and payment link remain uncompleted.

How does this template handle pre-existing site bugs and plugin conflicts?

The agreement defines redesign scope strictly around agreed deliverables. Pre-existing database corruption or plugin repair work requires a separate billable change request link.
