Content Deliverables

The Freelancer agrees to produce press release materials specifically detailed in the project brief. Deliverables include a draft headline, subheadline, body copy, executive quotes, company boilerplate, and media contact information. Deliverables are limited to copywriting and formatting for wire distribution; media pitching and placement guarantees are strictly excluded unless explicitly attached in a separate scope document.

Review Process

Upon receipt of the initial press release draft, the Client has up to seventy-two (72) hours to conduct an internal review and submit consolidation feedback. All revision requests must be submitted in a single, unified document. The Freelancer will process edits within two (2) business days of receiving consolidated notes.

Acceptance Criteria

The Client agrees to formally inspect and approve the press release for factual accuracy, quote verification, legal disclosures, and formatting. Final acceptance must be executed in writing through the MicroFreelanceHub approval interface. Written approval certifies that the Client assumes total liability for all contents within the release upon wire distribution or media pitch deployment.

Revision Limits

This contract includes two (2) structural and copy revision rounds. Revisions are restricted to refining the original strategy and facts outlined in the kickoff brief. Requests for new angles, new quote sourcing, or strategy shifts after draft delivery will be billed as additional work at the Freelancer's standard hourly rate.

Final Payment

A fifty percent (50%) non-refundable deposit is required prior to project kickoff. The remaining fifty percent (50%) balance is due immediately upon Client content sign-off. Sign-off automatically generates and releases the final payment link. The Freelancer will withhold distribution-ready files until the final payment link settlement is completed.

Post-Approval Changes

Once final written content approval is provided, any subsequent edits requested by the Client—whether before or after wire publication—constitute a new work order. Post-approval changes will be billed at an emergency rate of $150 per hour and require full settlement via payment link prior to execution.

What is a Press Release Writer Content Approval Contract?

A press release writer content approval contract protects freelance PR writers by requiring formal written client sign-off on final drafts before wire distribution. It enforces strict revision limits, verifies factual accuracy, and locks in final milestone payment authorization via payment links prior to launch, successfully eliminating post-publication edit disputes and unpaid invoices.

Built from real freelance projects

This template is based on real-world scenarios across freelance projects where unclear scope, missing payment terms, and revision creep led to lost revenue. It helps clarify your time, define expectations, and make payment steps easier to manage.

Why Press Release Writers need a clear content approval contract

Press releases carry strict legal, timing, and public relations consequences once distributed to wire services or press contacts. Without a dedicated Content Approval Contract, freelance press release writers risk nightmare post-publication scenarios where clients demand uncompensated rewrites, blame the writer for incorrect executive quotes or financial metrics, or refuse to settle the balance after syndication. Implementing a formal content approval workflow locks in explicit client verification of all quotes, statistics, boilerplate text, and embargo dates prior to release. MicroFreelanceHub streamlines this process by bundling your contract, upfront deposit, draft sign-off, and automated final payment link into a unified audit trail. This structure guarantees that you receive payment in full before wire submission, while protecting your agency or freelance practice from post-distribution liabilities and endless revision fatigue.

Real-world scenario

A tech startup hires a freelance PR writer to draft a seed funding announcement. The writer collects a 50% deposit via MicroFreelanceHub and submits the draft. The VP of Marketing verbally approves it, but hours after wire submission on PR Newswire, the lead investor demands quote changes and the startup attempts to block the remaining 50% payment. Because the writer used MicroFreelanceHub’s Content Approval Contract workflow, they have a binding written sign-off confirming all quotes and stats were verified prior to launch. The contract stipulates that post-approval changes require a separate scope and invoice. MicroFreelanceHub executes the payment link, securing the writer's final balance and shielding them from unpaid post-launch edits.

Best practices for Press Release Writers

Require Fact & Quote Checkbox Approvals

Force the client to explicitly check a box confirming that all executive quotes, figures, and legal disclosures are 100% accurate before final sign-off.

Gate Final Distribution Formats Behind Payment Settlement

Never release raw wire submission text files or media distribution lists until the final payment link has been successfully settled.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if a client requests text changes after approving the press release?

Any modifications requested after formal content approval are classified as Post-Approval Scope Changes. These incur an extra fee and require a new payment link payment before edits are made.

Can a client hold my final payment if journalists do not publish their press release?

No. The contract strictly separates press release copywriting deliverables from media placement outcomes, ensuring full final payment upon copy sign-off regardless of media pick-up.
