Statement of Work

Scope of Work

The Consultant agrees to perform email marketing automation services as explicitly detailed in the project proposal recorded on MicroFreelanceHub. Scope includes ESP configuration, segment setup, workflow logic design, and email drafting. Any work outside this scope, including ESP migration, domain troubleshooting, or extra sequence steps, requires an executed scope change and additional payment.

Upfront Payment

Work shall not commence, nor shall account access be requested, until the Client has remitted 100% of the agreed contract value via the MicroFreelanceHub payment link. All upfront payments secure consulting schedule availability and technical setup resources and are strictly non-refundable upon project initiation.

Client Review

The Consultant will present completed sequence blueprints, email copy, and trigger logic for Client review via MicroFreelanceHub. The Client is entitled to one (1) consolidated round of revisions within the pre-agreed scope. Additional revision requests or structural flow alterations after approval will incur standard hourly rates.

Approval Deadlines

The Client agrees to review and provide written feedback or sign-off on delivered assets within three (3) business days of receipt. If the Client fails to respond within five (5) business days, the work delivered will be deemed fully accepted and approved by the Client.

Delivery Conditions

Technical delivery is fulfilled when automation workflows, triggers, segmentation rules, and email templates are uploaded and verified within the Client's ESP account. Delivery is independent of whether the Client actively turns the campaigns to 'live' status for public recipients.

Refund Limits

Because services involve customized strategy, immediate platform work, and digital architecture, payments are non-refundable once technical configuration or copy drafting has started. No refunds will be granted due to third-party ESP downtime, client-side product delays, or business strategy changes.

Termination

Either party may terminate this agreement upon written notice if the other party breaches material obligations. If terminated by the Client prior to completion, all upfront fees remain with the Consultant as liquidated damages for allocated time and proprietary architecture work completed to date.

Platform Credential and Asset Bottlenecks

Clients stall on providing ESP access, API keys, or verified sender domain settings, freezing implementation while expecting strict original launch deadlines.

Scope Creep via Endless Conditional Splits

Clients continuously request additional logic branches, custom tags, or extra sequence emails beyond the initial automation blueprint without extra budget.

Launch Delay Payment Withholding

Clients pause internal go-live schedules due to inventory or management issues and refuse to pay final balances even though all technical builds are finished.

What is a Email Marketing Automation Consultant Upfront Payment Contract?

An Email Marketing Automation Upfront Payment Contract guarantees that consultants receive full payment prior to building workflows, integrating ESP systems, or drafting copy. It establishes strict deliverable boundaries, mandatory asset timelines, and non-refundable payment clauses to protect consultants against scope creep, client delays, and arbitrary payment withholding.

Built from real freelance projects

This template is based on real-world scenarios across freelance projects where unclear scope, missing payment terms, and revision creep led to lost revenue. It is designed to protect your time, define expectations, and ensure you get paid.

Why Email Marketing Automation Consultants need a clear upfront payment contract

Email marketing automation requires extensive strategy, technical setup, segmentation logic, and copywriting before a single campaign is deployed. When consultants work without upfront payment, clients frequently delay providing platform credentials, brand assets, or sequence feedback while the consultant sits on unpaid labor. An Upfront Payment Contract aligns financial commitments directly with project initiation. By securing total payment in advance through MicroFreelanceHub payment links, you safeguard hours spent configuring complex conditional splits, webhooks, and tagging taxonomies. Furthermore, binding payment to pre-agreed deliverables prevents clients from demanding infinite logic tweaks or additional platform migrations without proper compensation. Establishing a strict upfront payment policy ensures you are compensated for your specialized architecture upfront, completely eliminating late invoices, scope creep, and the risk of client ghosting mid-build.

Real-world scenario

An automation consultant agreed to build a 7-step onboarding sequence in Klaviyo for $4,500 with a 50% final payment upon campaign launch. The consultant spent 25 hours building complex trigger logic, segment rules, and custom email designs. Once completed, the client unexpectedly postponed their product launch for six months and refused to release the remaining $2,250 because the emails were not officially 'live.' The consultant's hard work was trapped in client operational delays. With an Upfront Payment Contract executed via MicroFreelanceHub, the full $4,500 would be collected prior to account login. The contract explicitly separates technical configuration and delivery from the client's internal launch schedule. Payment protection guarantees that work rendered is paid work, preventing frozen cash flow and keeping client obligations perfectly clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if the client takes weeks to approve email copy or flow logic?

The contract includes an Approval Deadline clause. If feedback is delayed beyond 5 business days, the submitted assets are deemed approved, allowing the consultant to finalize technical integration and mark the project complete.

Is the upfront payment refundable if the client decides not to launch their email campaign?

No. Upfront payments compensate the consultant for strategy, platform integration, and sequence architecture. Once work has commenced, fees are non-refundable regardless of client-side commercial launch decisions.
