Statement of Work

Ref: 2026-001 • Standard Business Template

Project Scope and Platform Limitations

The Developer agrees to build the project using the Webflow platform; however, the Developer is not an employee of Webflow Inc. and cannot guarantee against platform-wide downtime, server errors, or changes to Webflow’s Terms of Service. The Client acknowledges that the site’s functionality is dependent on Webflow’s infrastructure, and the Developer shall not be held liable for any loss of data or business interruptions caused by the hosting provider or third-party integrations.

Intellectual property rights for the custom design and code components will remain with the Developer until the final invoice is paid in full. Upon receipt of payment, the Developer will transfer the Webflow project to the Client’s workspace or connect the Client’s custom domain. The Client is thereafter responsible for maintaining the account in good standing to prevent service interruption or site deletion by the platform provider.

The Figma Drift

When a client updates the Figma source file after development has started, causing a mismatch between the agreed scope and the expected Webflow build.

CMS Structural Debt

Clients requesting additional CMS fields or collection relationships late in the build can require a total rebuild of the site data architecture.

Hosting Plan Friction

Clients often misunderstand that Webflow hosting is a separate recurring cost paid directly to the platform, leading to disputes over who pays for the site to stay live.

What is a Webflow Developer contract?

A Webflow Developer contract template is a specialized service agreement that defines the technical scope of a website build. It covers deliverables like CMS structure, SEO configuration, and hosting transfers. This document protects freelancers from scope creep and ensures clients understand their responsibilities regarding Webflow subscription fees and asset delivery.

Built from real freelance projects

This template is based on real-world scenarios across freelance projects where unclear scope, missing payment terms, and revision creep led to lost revenue. It is designed to protect your time, define expectations, and ensure you get paid.

Why Webflow Developers need a clear contract

Webflow development is a hybrid of design implementation and technical engineering. Unlike standard coding, it involves managing hosting tiers, complex CMS structures, and often high-stakes SEO migrations. Without a written contract, you are liable for API failures or broken integrations like Memberstack or Wized that you did not build. A contract defines the exact Definition of Done. Does it mean the site is live on a staging domain or a custom production domain? Does it include 301 redirects for 50 or 500 pages? Without these specific details, clients often assume you are a lifetime technical support agent for their monthly hosting plan. Clear terms protect your time and ensure you get paid for the actual build time rather than babysitting the site for months after the initial handoff.

Real-world scenario

Imagine you agree to a four thousand dollar build for a standard corporate site. The client provides a Figma file that looks simple, so you skip the formal contract and start building immediately. Midway through the project, the client asks for a dynamic blog with complex filtering. You build it to be helpful. Then they ask for a password protected member portal. You realize you need a higher Webflow plan and custom code, but the client refuses to pay the monthly price difference or the extra dev hours. They insist the site is not finished until the portal works perfectly with their legacy CRM. Because you have no written scope, you spend three weeks troubleshooting API documentation for free. The launch is delayed by a month. When you finally ask for the final payment, the client ghosts you because they already have a read only link and hired a junior developer to finish the last few tasks. You lose significant revenue and have zero leverage to reclaim your work.
